Rwandan Orphange
Brad Bogart

On our honeymoon, my husband and I went to an orphanage near the city of Ruhengeri in Rwanda. Upon our return home, we realized we were haunted by the poverty in which we saw the children living and wanted to do more to help.

So Brad and I started Children in Rwanda, an organization that helps a few children have a better life. It’s a simple organization with a simple goal: to improve the future of the sixty-five children living on a hill near the town of Ruhengeri.

The children live in three different orphanages on a hill top. They are run by three different women, and receive varying levels of aid, although one receives nothing, and the one that receives the most aid still needs more.

Our goal is to get these orphanages to be more self-sufficient so they do not have to rely on the kindness of strangers. There are plenty of unemployed people nearby who could be employed if the orphanage could find a way to generate it’s own income.

One of the up and coming exports from Rwanda is a high-grade organic coffee which might be a perfect fit for the orphanages’ hill side.

We have begun a record of each child so people can get to know each funny personality for themselves. Although it is expensive to ship to Rwanda, we have so far sent six boxes of clothes, educational toys, and lamps.

We welcome any help with shipping and will give you a contact to ship to if you want to ship something yourself.
